I feel rather strongly about this topic ……….. SEPTEMBER! The days are toasty, the sun still feels luxurious while kissing our foreheads, but the nights and mornings whisper that autumn is stirring, and slowly waking, after a long summer. September brings the first of crunching leaves, crisper air, shorter days and longer nights. The trees are preparing to exchange their green for gold, orange, yellow and bronze. The sweet breeze we’ve had the past few days is a preview of the wind that comes with autumn and winter here in the mountains ………. I’m totally smitten already!

“Ah, September! You are the doorway to the season that awakens my soul … but I must confess that I love you only because you are a prelude to my beloved October.” — Peggy Toney Horton

Happily we bask in this warm September sun, which illuminates all creatures …” — Henry David Thoreau

October is truly my “favorite” month, but I really love September, too, and not only because of where it leads! September is apples, bittersweet vines with yellow-orange berries bursting into red, the last sweet songs of katydids, cicadas, and crickets, and watching squirrels bury their treasures. The shadows are longer and sharper, the golden hour is even more golden, and somehow everything seems to come into focus. Watching summer fade into fall is spectacular in every way, and I will never, ever grow tired of the transition.

I’ve restructured my evening routine to include solo quiet time now that my kids are FINALLY back in the classroom, after 18 months of being home every.single.minute. There’s nothing better than cozy lighting, calm vibe music, and being alone with my thoughts to journal, breathe, and just be. It’s bliss, really. The cheer of September, plus an hour of non mom time in the evening, equals absolute refreshment for my soul.

September is starting off beautifully, and I intend to hang on to that feeling when hard speaks up and tries to disrupt my peace. September energy is intentional and vivacious, and I hope you feel that as well. Savor the long lazy sunbeams, indulge in the warm sunshine on your face, and feel all the end of summer feels as we transition from summer to autumn. So, go on, find a sunbeam, bask in the September sun, and stay open and bendy to all the lovely energy that this fantastic month affords.

With Sunbeams and Love,

Racheal Xx
